A : Enamel

This outer layer of the tooth is known as enamel. Enamel is translucent, which means you can see light shining through it. That means that it is not responsible for the coloring of your tooth itself.

Enamel is also the hardest tissue in the entire human body. It covers the crown, which is the part of your tooth that protrudes out of your gums. Along with protecting your teeth, enamel keeps your teeth insulated from potentially harmful temperatures or chemicals.

Enamel can be damaged by chipping, cracking, or erosion. Unlike other broken bones, enamel cannot be repaired because it has no living cells.

Enamel erosion may be caused by phosphoric and citric acids from soft drinks or having a dry mouth, also known as low saliva flow.

B: Dentin

Dentin is the hard, yellow layer beneath the enamel. At the root, dentin is made up of 70% hydroxyapatite, 20% organic matter, and 10% water. Unlike enamel, dentin is thought to cause the color of the tooth.

The dentin has less minerals compared to the enamel and is also less dense and brittle. Its main purpose is to support the outer layer and communicate impulses from the enamel to the root or dental pulp.

Dentin hypersensitivity can occur when the enamel erodes, along with other factors such as plaque accumulation or grinding teeth. In these cases, the dentin experiences extreme sensitivity and pain.

Symptoms are magnified when drinking hold or cold items.

C: Gum

The gums are also known as the gingivae. They serve as the connective tissue surrounding your teeth and bone. Your gums are very delicate, so it is important to be gentle when brushing.

D: Bone

The gums are also known as the gingivae. They serve as the connective tissue surrounding your teeth and bone. Your gums are very delicate, so it is important to be gentle when brushing.

E: Dental Pulp

Dental pulp refers to areas of the tooth that is alive. The pulp can experience pressure and sensitivity which we experience as pain. It communicates with the dentin to prevent the tooth from being compromised.

F: Root Cannel
This is the end of the root canal which supports the living pulp in the tooth.
